Experiences

Kastelorizo offers an overdose of nature worshipping, with places of unbelievable beauty that can leave someone breathless.

Blue Grotto

Blue Cave is the most celebrated attraction of the Greek island of Kastelorizo. The cave lies on the southeast coast of the island, and is named by the inhabitants Phókiali.

At 40–50 m long, 25–30 m wide, and 20–25 m high, it is much larger than the world famous Grotta Azzurra on Capri, Italy.

The light of the sun, refracted through the sea, is reflected in the interior of the grotto, thereby producing a dazzling blue colour. The cave can be visited only by boat and, since the entrance is barely one metre high above sea level, only under calm sea conditions. The best time of the day to visit is early in the morning, when the sun is still low.

Hiking

The paths are well indicated.

Kastelorizo - Monastery of St. George-of-the-Mountain

One of the most popular hikes goes from Kastelorizo Town to the Monastery of St. George-of-the-Mountain, located on the mountain plateau in the centre of the island. The walk is 2.3 kilometres and it takes about one hour to hike.

Megisti - Agios Georgios tou Vounou - Agia Triada church Loop

Long circular hike. The route starts from the port of the island, Megisti, and ascends to the Vigla hill. The walk is 10.6 kilometres.

Megisti - French Path - Navlakas Bay

From the settlement of Megisti and Kastelorizo Harbor the route climbs south to the hill above the town. The walk is 6 kilometres and it takes about 2-2.5 hours to hike.

And more...

Canoeing

Canoeing is a peaceful yet exciting way to explore nature from the water. Gliding across coastal waters allows you to connect with your surroundings, enjoy unique views, and experience a sense of freedom and adventure at your own pace.

Fishing

Being on an island automatically means fishing. Fishing is a timeless activity that combines patience, skill, and a deep connection with nature. Whether casting a line from the shore or heading out to sea, it offers moments of calm, focus, and reward, turning each outing into a relaxing and fulfilling experience.

That includes on boat fishing, fishing from the land and diving

film Méditerraneo

The film Méditerraneo (1991), which recounts the adventures of Italian soldiers after the end of the war and which won the Oscar for the best foreign film, was filmed on the island.

30 meters from the suites is the spot where the movie Mediterraneo was filmed and next to them is the traditional Platanos tavern.

A scene from The guns of Navarone (1961) also takes place in the castle of Megísti.

Puzzle Museum

One of a kind, unique interactive museum. The only one in Greece and of 3-4 worldwide. A place filled with educational objects which inspire creativity regardless age and profession of the visitor.

An experience which cannot be described with words or pictures. It is a free tour, and an appointment should be made to accommodate groups of 4-10 people for maximum enjoyment.

Kastelorizo has a long tradition in puzzles, which is evidenced by magazines with 19th century puzzles that exist in the Folklore Museum of the island.
